Today’s post is all about other local Memphis area divorce lawyers. I’ve decided to give all of our faithful readers a list of some of the best Memphis divorce lawyers in town.
We know that in some cases we aren’t able to take your divorce or child custody case because of various reasons. When this occurs we like to be able to refer you some of the best Memphis divorce and child custody lawyers in town.
A few ground rules for our list:
- We did NOT list ourselves. No impropriety here. We are ONLY listing other local lawyers. We’re not trying to boost our own ego!
- Just because an attorney is on our list does not mean that attorney is a good lawyer for you to use. Each and every attorney has there own way of doing things, a great divorce lawyer for one person might not be so great for another one. Speak with any attorney first before you make a decision. Make sure that their personality fits with your personality.
- Our list is not exhaustive. Their are a lot of other very good Memphis divorce lawyers who are worthy of being on our list of top 5 divorce lawyers in Memphis. Just because someone is not on our list doesn’t mean that they aren’t a great Memphis divorce lawyer.
- Our list is not in any particular order.

Can I get and divorce for verbal abuse it’s goes on every day
Rosie,
Yes, you could claim that this is inappropriate marital behavior and file for a divorce here in Memphis based on that ground.
Dot, these rankings are completely and 100% arbitrary. There are a lot of good Memphis divorce lawyers who could be added to this list. These are just some of the top ones I’ve watched, admired and tried to learn from over the years.
I have a friend who has filed for a divorce. His court date has been set and the wife refuses to sign the papers, she now is asking for alimony stating that she is a house wife, The husband has a disability and only recieves a set income from disabilty every month. There are no kids involved no assets , nothing to split. True enough this house wife has been a house wife for 20 + years but is the payee over her sons check which has a disability, she has a income, her sons. Will she be able to get anything out of his monthly SSI check? As i have read TN laws protect him when it comes to that. Also, I have on tape where the defendent has verbally stated that she has moved on and that she has a new boyfriend, wouldnt that be considered infedelity? And her messages that she left can also prove to the judge that she is doing this out of malice, spite and personal vendetta, she also stated that she would ruin his credit at this time as well, she will keep running up his credit, so he can be stuck paying it all back. This person is actually stating this criminalizing things on his voicemail, not knowing the phone is on, should he retain an attorney to fight for just the “order to NOT pay Alimony, will an attorney just accept that part of the complaint, the other paper work has already been filed.. Please help with all advice. Im trying to help a friend but its getting me exhausted. Also since he has a disabilty, would he qualify for free legal aid?
Deborah,
Thanks for reading my little site here and for your comments and questions.
Wow, your friend has a lot of things going. Unfortunately I can’t dive into answers for most of your questions, there are just too many things that factor into this. My answers would be full of a lot of “maybe’s”. For example he may have to pay alimony, he may not. He probably will have a cause of action in the divorce due to the Wife’s infidelity.
The one question I can answer definitively is the one about whether he needs to get an attorney, this is a definite YES. Call somebody today. He may be able to have a legal services group help him somewhat (in Memphis he would contact Memphis Area Legal Services aka MALS), but just because he is disabled doesn’t mean that he will get free legal aid. In fact, for divorces there is almost never free legal aid. (And there probably really shouldn’t be free legal aid for divorces in my opinion because no one ever makes someone get married to begin with. So why should others pay the legal fees for someone else’s choices in life?)
Again, thanks for ready and your questions.

attempted to get a divorce due to distructive verbal, emotional, and psychological abuse. ex spent several hours one on one with my atty (on my dime, very manipulative, wonder how much he slipped her on the side) and in the end…she blew my case and judge did not even grant me a divorce! one of my ex’s attorneys is in this list…but my ex went thru 3 attys and the one on this list was his first one, which shows you the type of person my ex is. anyway…justice is not served….i lost everything financially bc he finally agreed to grant me a divorce if i took nothing and even PAID him $25,000!! good riddence!!! my prayer is that everyone involved….my atty and the judge… would not get a good night sleep EVER!!! but i know….they could not care less about the lives of their clients…..as long as they get their money. cannot imagine having that job….being a hospice nurse.
Carol,
Thank you for sharing. I’m sorry that your divorce was particularly troublesome. Every divorce is difficult, but yours definitely sounds like it was difficult for you. I can only give you well wishes for the future and hope that you are able to go forward with better luck in your relationships (and counsel) in the future.
Jami
