F.A.Q’s
Q: Where are you located?
A: We are in Old Germantown, with the closest major intersection being Poplar and Germantown Rd., at 2255 S. Germantown Rd., Germantown, TN 38138. We are south of that intersection, across the railroad tracks from popular restaurants the Germantown Commissary and Elfo’s. We love our old brick building – look for our small parking lot just to the south of the building for your convenience.
Q: What are your hours?
A: The office is open 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
Q: How much do you charge for an initial consultation?
A: Unlike many firms, our initial consultations are completely free for the first half hour. We have found this to be ample time, generally, to cover the basics of your case and give you the information you need to move forward.
Q: How accessible are the attorneys to my questions?
A: The attorneys at Ferrell Law Firm work to strike that balance that we all seek – work and family. The easiest way to get in touch with our attorneys is often by email; this method provides a paper trail and allows answering in a timely but effective manner. Frequent phone calls have a way of derailing a train of thought that we find crucial to working on our cases to the best of our abilities, while we reserve time each day to answering your questions and concerns via email. We are a family-oriented firm and maintain regular office hours of 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday for that reason.
Q: What forms of payment do you take?
A: We are able to take cash, check, cashier’s check, money order, Visa, or MasterCard. You can make credit card payments over the phone during our office hours.
Q: How much does a divorce cost?
A: Please click here to see how much our Memphis Divorce costs and fees are, this page which explains in detail how our fees work. In addition to attorney fees, the courts of Shelby, DeSoto, or your county will charge a filing fee for paperwork. Other miscellaneous costs can be accrued during the process as well, and we make every effort to keep you informed of the charges that are coming your way. We work hard to be a cost-effective firm for our clients – we won’t be charging you for paper, faxes, quick questions, or supplies.
Q: How long will my divorce take?
A: That depends on several factors. The basic waiting period, once your divorce papers have been filed with the courts, is 60 days or more. The time it takes to draft the documents necessary for filing can stretch anywhere from one week to six months or more. And finally, once your waiting period has concluded the court might schedule your final hearing anywhere from the next day to ten days or more out.
Q: What happens if my divorce begins uncontested and shifts to contested?
A: This is not uncommon, and a few steps have to be taken to shift gears – we are unable to offer flat fee services on contested divorces, so you will shift to a retainer-based payment, and we will likely be needing an increased amount of communication, information, and documentation from you as negotiations with the opposing attorney begin. On your end, making sure that you document all occurrences of problems or interactions is important to help build your case.
